Rudston's Playing Field is a prime example of Rudston's tradition of independence and self-help. Established in 1983 thanks to Sir Ian MacDonald and a band of enthusiastic and resourceful villagers, it exists primarily to serve the village. Spectators and visiting teams frequently admire its facilities: a football pitch, bowls green, cricket pitch and three tennis courts, all served by a spacious, light and airy pavilion built by villagers.
A Playing field Committee, widely represented by other organisations in the village, oversees the activities of two cricket teams, two football teams, three bowls teams and four tennis teams to offer all year round sport to the local North Wolds community.
